Promoting high standards/complaints against councillors.
The Council formed a Standards Committee as part of the ethical framework for Local Authorities established under the Localism Act 2011.
The role of the Committee is set out in article 9 of the Council’s Constitution and includes:
(a) promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by Councillors and any Co-opted Members
(b) advising the Council on the adoption or revision of the Members’ Code of Conduct;
(c) advising, training and arranging to train Councillors and any Co-opted Members on matters relating to the Members’ Code of Conduct;
(d) hearing any complaints made against any Councillor or co-opted Member referred by the Monitoring Officer and Independent person following an investigation into that complaint.
What is a complaint against a Councillor?
A complaint against a Councillor is an allegation that a Councillor has not observed the Code of Conduct for Members. Please note that by law every District, Town or Parish Council has to approve their own Local Code of Conduct.
