West End Proms to play at Scarborough OAT

A spectacular night of beautiful performances spanning seven decades of musical theatre is coming to Scarborough on Friday 5 July.

Some of the world’s most talented Broadway and West End stars will unite at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer for an evening of beautiful live music, complete with a stunning 32-piece orchestra.

West End Proms will present a breath-taking evening which will feature songs from such smash hit musicals as Les Misérables, Phantom Of The Opera, The Greatest Showman, Rock Of Ages, Wicked, Sunset Boulevard, Dear Evan Hansen and more.

Company prosecuted re: Direct Earnings Attachment

Simply IP Solutions Ltd of Durham Place, Scarborough, has been prosecuted for failing to operate a Direct Earnings Attachment (DEA) for Scarborough Borough Council and has been fined £1,200 plus costs by Scarborough Magistrates Court. 

A DEA is where an employer is sent a notice to make deductions from their employee’s pay to recover overpayments of benefits. This includes overpaid Housing Benefit.

The Big Picture land art competiton winner

In a surprise announcement today, the winner of The Big Picture competition to create a design for land art to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire in the Borough of Scarborough was revealed.

Libby Graham, age 9, was thrilled to find out that her design has been chosen to create the central section of a giant piece of land art, The Big Picture, which will be installed in the grounds of Scarborough Castle for Stage Three of the Tour de Yorkshire and Stage Two of the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 4 May. 

Early bird discount for Selective Licensing scheme

From Monday 1 April landlords will be able to apply for an early bird discount for our new Selective Licensing scheme, known as Scarborough Central.

The scheme, which was approved by in November 2018 after extensive consultation with landlords, residents and other interested parties, will cover parts of the Castle, Central and North Bay wards in Scarborough and will last for five years from 1 June to 31 May 2024. To comply with the scheme, landlords of rented properties in the designated area need to apply to us for a licence.

Jess Glynne to star at Open Air Theatre

Global superstar and chart record holder Jess Glynne is returning to headline Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.

Jess – the only ever British female solo artist to score seven UK Number One singles – performed an unforgettable gig at the Yorkshire coast venue in 2017.

And in an announcement that will delight her legions of fans, Jess is bringing her stunning live show to Britain’s largest open-air arena again on Sunday 21 July.  

Years & Years to play Scarborough OAT

UK pop superstars Years & Years are set to light up Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer with their stunning live show.

The chart-topping electro-pop group, fronted by Yorkshire-born singer Olly Alexander, will play the UK’s biggest open-air arena on Thursday 18 July.

Second date added for Lewis Capaldi at OAT

Chart topper Lewis Capaldi will play a second date at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.

The extra date is announced today due to the phenomenal demand for his previously announced show at the Yorkshire coast venue which went on sale this morning.

Lewis will now perform at Scarborough OAT on Saturday 20 July and the additional date of Friday 30 August.

Notice of elections in Borough of Scarborough

An election for all 46 Scarborough Borough Council seats will take place on Thursday 2 May.

Following a review in 2017/18 of our ward boundaries by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, we will move to a revised 20-ward structure for this May’s elections (from the current 25 wards) with four less seats than the current 50.

Residents' discount parking scheme launch

We will launch our new residents’ discount parking scheme in April and we are inviting people living in the borough to apply for a free ‘virtual’ permit so that they can take advantage of a 20% reduction in the standard tariffs for up to four hours of parking in council owned off-street car parks.

Visit of Tour de Yorkshire winners' trophies

The Tour de Yorkshire winners’ trophies toured the Borough of Scarborough on Tuesday 12 March, where they visited a local school, a bike bank which is helping change lives through cycling and a distillery making Yorkshire’s first ever whisky.

Scarborough will host the finish of Stage Three of the men’s race and Stage Two of the women’s race, on Saturday 4 May. The riders will start in Bridlington, before cycling through Hunmanby, the North York Moors, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby with a nail-biting sprint finish along the seafront in Scarborough.
