Parish council elections results

After voters went to the polls on Thursday 2 May to vote in elections for seven parish councils in the Borough of Scarborough, votes were verified and counted on Friday 3 May in the Grand Hall at Scarborough Spa and the results were declared by Returning Officer, Jim Dillon.

66 candidates across the seven parish councils stood for election, with the results listed in full below. Those elected are marked with an ‘E’.

 

Cayton Parish Council (9 seats) – turnout 29.76%

Carlton Bell: 229 E

David Crane: 233 E

Scarborough Borough Council elections results

After thousands of voters went to the polls yesterday to vote in the borough and parish elections for the Borough of Scarborough, votes were verified and counted today in the Grand Hall at Scarborough Spa and the results were declared by Returning Officer, Jim Dillon.

The Scarborough Borough Council elections covered 46 seats across a new 20-ward structure, which was implemented for the first time following a review of ward boundaries by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England in 2017/18.

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits on the opening stage of the Tour de Yorkshire as Jesper Asselman sprinted to a dramatic breakaway victory in Selby.

The riders received a warm welcome in Doncaster’s Market Place at the start of the day and continued to be cheered along by the sizeable crowds who braved the elements to see the world’s best riders in action.

We are delighted to confirm the programme of activities and entertainment for Scarborough’s celebration of the finish of Stage Three of the Tour de Yorkshire and Stage Two of the Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women’s Race on Saturday 4 May.

In addition to big screens on Sandside and Royal Albert Drive, which will be showing live televised footage of the race, the council will be putting on a range of family friendly activities.

A Family Fun Zone in the Open Air Theatre offering free of charge activities will get underway at 12pm and run throughout the afternoon until 6pm.

Recommendation for Chief Executive appointment

We are expected to appoint Michael Greene as our new Chief Executive next month following an extensive recruitment exercise and recommendation by our cross-party Appointments Committee.

The appointment is subject to final approval at our Full Council meeting on Monday 13 May. If the majority of councillors vote in favour of the committee’s recommendation, it is expected that Michael will start his new role, based at the Town Hall in Scarborough, around the middle of August.

Saturday night closure for busy Scarborough street

A busy street in Scarborough town centre, well known for its popular pubs and bars, is to be closed to traffic every Saturday night from Saturday 20 April.

Starting this weekend, the closure of St Nicholas Street from 11pm Saturday through to 5am Sunday will enable people to safely enter and leave the bars during that time.

Reminder to voters to check polling station location

We are advising people to check the location of their polling station for the forthcoming local elections on Thursday 2 May.

Due to our ward boundary review in 2017/18, the geographical boundaries of some wards have changed. For many voters their polling station will remain the same, but some may need to vote at a different polling station to the one they have used in previous elections.
