East Pier extension footbridge arrives in Whitby

A new footbridge, constructed specifically to link Whitby’s East Pier to its pier extension, arrived in the town yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 19 November, after a two-day road journey of around 388 miles from Peterhead, Scotland.

Scarborough Open Air Theatre’s hugely popular 80s and 90s night is back for 2020 – headlined by some of Yorkshire’s biggest pop stars of the era.

Marc Almond, Heaven 17 and Living In A Box, featuring Kenny Thomas, will lead the Mixtape line-up on Friday 10 July.

Free parking for Christmas gets underway

Free parking on late night Thursdays and some Sundays in the run up to Christmas begins today in some of our off-street car parks in Scarborough and Whitby.

The car parks listed below will offer free parking from 3.00pm on Thursday 14, 21, 28 November and 5, 12, 19 December and between 11.00am and 4.00pm on Sunday 1, 8, 15, 22 December.

Event to promote keeping warm and well this winter

We are holding a drop in event on Friday 29 November to provide advice and information to residents that will help keep them warm and well in their homes this winter.

The event is being held on National Fuel Poverty Awareness Day to raise awareness of some of the issues faced by those living in cold homes. The event will be held at the Town Hall in Scarborough between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Briefing session for General Election candidates

Following the government announcement that there will be a General Election held on Thursday 12 December, we will be hosting a briefing session for those thinking of standing as a candidate in the election for the Scarborough and Whitby Constituency. Prospective candidates and their agents are urged to attend.

The briefing session will take place from 1pm until 3pm on Thursday 7 November at the Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG.
