General Election candidates announced

The candidates who have been nominated to stand for the Scarborough and Whitby Constituency in the forthcoming General Election on Thursday 8 June are:

  • Bill Black - The Yorkshire Party
  • Eric Broadbent – Labour Party
  • Sam Cross – UK Independence Party (UKIP)
  • John Freeman – Independent
  • Robert Goodwill – Conservative Party
  • Gordon Johnson – Independent
  • Robert Graham Lockwood – Liberal Democrat
  • David Malone – Green Party

The deadline for registering to vote is midnight on Monday 22 May. We're keen to point out that people can register quickly and easily by visiting gov.uk/register-to-vote or for those without internet access, by calling the council’s Elections team on 01723 232309.

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must be made by 5pm on Tuesday 23 May. An application form to apply for a postal vote can be found on our voting webpage.

Those with other queries in relation to postal or proxy votes should contact the council’s Elections team directly.

The deadline for applications to vote by proxy is 5pm on Wednesday 31 May. Applications to vote by emergency proxy on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the council’s Elections team by 5pm on Thursday 8 June. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 31 May. To apply on the grounds of work or service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 31 May.
