Businesses can sign up to England’s Seafood Coast

Thursday, 20 December 2018

Our Discover Yorkshire Coast team is encouraging businesses throughout the Borough of Scarborough to sign up to an exciting new tourism initiative aimed at bringing more international visitors to the cities, towns and villages on England’s coastline.

A new initiative, England’s Seafood Coast, which is funded by the Discover England Fund supported by VisitBritain and VisitEngland, will see the creation of a seafood ‘trail’ around the English coastline, featuring businesses with links to seafood, from cafes and restaurants to hotels and visitor attractions. England’s Seafood Coast will be marketed to potential visitors from The Netherlands and Germany directly and also via tour operators and Dutch and German journalists.

Businesses can make sure they are included in the trail, and benefit from the marketing that will give them, by registering for free on the England’s Coast website at https://englandscoast.com/en

Businesses that register before the New Year will be included in time for the trail being featured at the biggest travel exhibition in The Netherlands, Vakantiebeurs, which will take place between 9 and 13 January.

Examples of businesses that would be ideal for England’s Seafood Coast initiative include:

  • A restaurant, café or pub that buys its fish from the local fish market or direct from the boat
  • An outdoor adventure company that offers tours where customers catch their own fish and cook them on the beach
  • A hotel or Bed & Breakfast that serves local smoked kippers for breakfast
  • A visitor attraction with a strong link to seafood, such as a public tour of a fish market or trips on a heritage sailing trawler

Food businesses should be within five miles of the coastline and visitor attractions and activities should be within 15 miles of the coastline.

Businesses already registered on the England’s Coast website, should log on to update their details to include their seafood focus.

Janet Deacon, Scarborough Borough Council Tourism and Corporate Marketing Manager and Welcome to Yorkshire Area Director said:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to benefit from free marketing and play a very important role in promoting the Yorkshire coast’s seafood excellence to international audiences. By working together, we can look forward to bringing new visitors to eat and learn about our fantastic seafood, right where it’s landed."
