Affordable housing proposed for Staithes

Tuesday, 6 November 2018

Residents in Hinderwell Parish are being invited to give their views on an affordable housing scheme proposed for the coastal village of Staithes in North Yorkshire.

Two public consultation drop-in events, which will focus on the proposed plans, will be held this month as follows:

  • Thursday 15 November, 3.30pm to 7.30pm - St. Hilda’s Old School, Hinderwell
  • Friday 16 November, 1.00pm to 6.30pm - The Village Memorial Hall, Staithes

The events are being organised by York Housing Association and Karbon Homes in association with Hinderwell Parish Council, North York Moors National Park Authority and the Scarborough Rural Housing Enabler.

Two open events carried out in March 2017 showed that there was a housing need for affordable homes for local households within the parish. The open events indicated that a small development of one, two and three bedroom homes and bungalows would go towards meeting the need identified within the parish.

If the proposal gets the support of the community, then affordable homes for local people could be built in Staithes to help some of the people in housing need. Priority will be given to people who have a strong local connection to Hinderwell parish.
